Hahn Meitner Institute Berlin

Post-doc position

The Hahn Meitner Institute (HMI) Berlin invites applications for a
post-doctoral position in complex transition metal systems. The
successful candidate will join an international team of scientists
taking part in an active scientific program focusing in the physics of
complex transition metal systems. Our group is currently focusing
on the interplay of spin, charge and lattice degrees of freedom in
transition metal oxides such as colossal Magnetoresistance
manganites, and in the magnetic properties of transition metal
molecule based magnets. The successful candidate will hold a PhD
in physics or chemistry and will have a strong scientific interest in
complex transition metal systems and experience in one of the
following areas,

(a) The synthesis of complex transition metal oxides or transition
metal organic-inorganic complexes. A working knowledge of the
floating zone method for single crystal growth will be an advantage.

(b) Neutron or X-ray scattering, including powder diffraction
methods and Rietveld analysis, single crystal diffraction or neutron
spectroscopy.

The successful candidate will be involved in the synthesis and/or
characterization of complex transition metal systems using physical
property measurements and the state of the art Neutron and X-ray
scattering facilities at the Hahn-Meitner-Institut.

The Hahn-Meitner-Institut is a German National Laboratory and a
member of the Hermann von Helmholtz Association of National
Research Centres. It is located in Berlin, the capital of Germany,
has about 850 employees and hosts the Berlin Neutron Scattering
Center (BENSC), a user facility open to scientists from all over the
world. To probe the structure and dynamics of solids and liquids,
BENSC provides scientists with state-of-the-art neutron scattering
facilities.

The position is for three years with a gross income of 40.000 to
45.000 EUR per annum (depending on age and marital status the
income may be higher). Applications to reference no. SF 2002/15
including a full curriculum vitae, copies of degrees, list of
publication should be sent to Hahn Meitner Institut Berlin, Abt.
Personal und Soziales, Glienicker Str. 100, 14109 Berlin, Germany
(email: personalabteilung at hmi.de).
