Experimental Physicist
Post-doctoral position
Reference no. SF00/33
The Department of Magnetism invites applications for a post-doctoral position.
The succesful candidate will collaborate with a team of scientists in a appli-
cation-oriented, international state-of-the-art project aiming at the develop-
ment and construction of a 3He polarisation filter set-up for neutrons. The use
of 3He polarisation filters opens new experimental fields in the research with
polarised neutrons. The development of such filter cells and the construction
of a filling station to supply them with polarised 3He gas is a focal point in
the instrumental development programme of the HMI.
The candidate should have a PhD in Physics. He/she should have a good knowledge
in atomic physics and optics, experience in laser application, vacuum techniquesand - in particular - in instrumental development. Knowledge in surface science
and familiarity in neutron scattering will be an advantage.
The Hahn Meitner Institute is a research center of the Federal Republic of Ger-
many and the land Berlin with about 820 employees working at Berlin-Wannsee and
Berlin-Adlershof. A key activity is the basic research on the structure of con-
densed matter using neutron scattering at the research reactor BER II (Berlin-
Wannsee) as well as synchrotron radiation scattering at BESSY (Berlin-Adlers-
hof).
The contract is limited to 2 1/2 years.
Gross income is from 70.000 to 90.000 DEM per annum
depending on age and martial status (Vgr. IIa BAT).
