IPNS Operations Manager - Argonne National Laboratory 

The Intense Pulsed Neutron Source Division is seeking candidates for the
position of IPNS Operations Manager.  The successful candidate will
provide effective leadership and management for the operation of the
Neutron Scattering Facility of the IPNS, ensuring maximum Facility
up-time while ensuring regulations, safety and security measures are
observed.  In addition to managing staff and resources, the individual
provides support and guidance to the technical/scientific staff and
division management regarding the quality of research by participating
in long-range planning, proposals, and both internal and external
interactions with other research divisions and other research
facilities.

This position requires considerable knowledge of neutron source
operation, instrumentation and ES&H requirements, of DOE organizational
structure and operation, and techniques for effective management of
people.  Understanding and application of neutron physics and
engineering related to neutron source operation, including radiation
hazards and shielding, neutron generation, and moderator science and/or
engineering are required. The Operations Manager must have comprehensive
skills in solving engineering problems, operating a neutron facility for
scientific users and supervising the work of others. The level of
knowledge and skill is typically achieved through a PhD or MS degree or
equivalent experience and a minimum of 10 years experience in the
operation of a neutron facility, and three years in management.

the University of Chicago for the U. S. Department of Energy. Interested
