[Neutron] FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT -- SIXTH LANSCE USER GROUP MEETING

The Sixth LANSCE User Group (LUG) Meeting will be held at the Los Alamos 
Neutron Science Center October 19-21, 2003. The goal of this meeting is to 
promote interactions between fields that rely on neutron science. The LUG 
meeting brings together current and potential users of LANSCE to share the 
excitement of scientific discoveries and to discuss upgrades that enhance 
our scientific output. Discussion topics include advanced radiography, 
biomolecular scattering and diffraction, defense-related nuclear and 
materials science, magnetic materials, materials science, nanotechnology, 
and nuclear and astrophysics to address issues in defense, basic, and 
industrial research. This meeting is organized by the

User Group Executive Committee.

STUDENT TRAVEL SUPPORT:
A limited amount of travel support (up to US $800 per student) is available 
on a first-request basis. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. 
Students granted funds must participate in the poster session. Funds should 
be requested on the registration form.

CALL FOR POSTER SUBMISSIONS:
Abstracts for posters are being solicited in all areas related to user 
science at LANSCE. Prizes will be awarded for the top student posters. All 
students receiving travel support to attend the meeting must submit a 
poster; see web site for details. Poster abstracts must be submitted by 
October 3.

AGENDA AND CONFIRMED SPEAKERS:
The LUG Executive Committee is busy organizing an excellent program for 
LANSCE users and potential users. See the meeting web site for details, and 
check back frequently over the coming months as details continue to develop.

CALL FOR 19th LOUIS ROSEN PRIZE SUBMISSIONS:
The LUG awards the Rosen Prize, consisting of $1,000 and a plaque, for the 
outstanding Ph.D. or MS thesis based on experimental or theoretical 
research performed at LANSCE. Criteria include the originality and extent 
of the student's contribution to the research and the scientific impact.

DEADLINES:
Rosen Prize Submissions -- August 11
Poster Abstracts -- October 3
Hotel Reservations -- October 3 (September 1 for the Hotel Loretto)
Early Registration* -- October 5
Late Registration -- from October 6 to on-site (late fee applies)

*Non-US citizens must register by the early registration deadline of 
October 5 in order to complete the DOE foreign visit process. Certain 
countries have longer approval lead-times.  If you feel this might apply to 
you, please contact the User Office at 505-665-1010 no later than July 31.
