-------------------------
Dear Collegues,
This is just a reminder and last before-the-summer update of the
2nd RMC Conference
'THE FIRST 15 YEARS OF REVERSE MONTE CARLO'.
which will be held in
Hotel Sunlight, Budapest, Hungary
between
9-11 October, 2003.
DEADLINE:
I ask (beg!) all of you who (even just faintly) consider to attend
to say so until
*******************************
31 AUGUST, 2003
*******************************
Late applications are also acceptable - but it is for YOUR
convenience to register early (by just an e-mail, see previous
announcements below) - the number of hotel rooms is
limited (but if you register early, I may be able to negotiate
for more!), as are the number of oral presentations.
PROGRAMME UPDATE:
The scope of the meeting is 'all aspects of Reverse Monte
Carlo modelling', including EPSR,MCGR,PDF, etc... New
suggestions/areas of application are particularly
welcome - even if these are in the form of ideas only!
The above deadline will help us to draw a - however
preliminary - programme early in September.
ACCOMODATION UPDATE:
50 rooms in Hotel Sunlight are being reserved for conference
participants until the end of August. If you register later, you
will have a constantly diminishing chance of staying at the
conference venue.
The price for 4 nights stay with 3 lunches (for the conference
days) is now - with the weak Hungarian currency - well under
200 Euros. According to our agreement with the hotel, you
do NOT need to send any money in advance - you just pay
on the spot. (VISA and Mastercard are accepted.) For this
reason, however, PLEASE tell me if you wish to cancel your
reservation! (For those of you who have already registered I
automatically count one single room each - please tell
me if this needs to be changed!)
RMC TUTORIAL:
It would be possible (and I would be happy) to
organise a one day Reverse Monte Carlo
tutorial/training before the conference (I suggest the
day of the 8th of October). Participation is limited to about
20 people (and I wouldn't like to organise it for less than
10...). If interested, please indicate it as soon as possible,
since the hotel is not suitable for such a training and
therefore, another venue has to be found.
By the end of the training, you should be able to set up
and run your own RMC calculation for multicomponent
atomic/ionic systems.
PROCEEDINGS:
It would be extremely nice and important to state clearly
what has and has NOT been accomplished so far - ideally,
a proceedings volume can serve such a purpose.
I'm still looking for a place (possibly a refereed journal)
where we could publish the essence of the meeting. If a good
place appears, you'll be notified immediately. Please, be
prepared for writing your contribution (at a short notice...)!
REGISTRATION:
Just send me an e-mail, with your name, institution,
type of presentation, (approximate) title of your contribution,
accomodation needs (single/double/triple room, dates,
etc...) and if you are interested in the tutorial.
QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, SUGGESTIONS...??
Do e-mail me at
lp at szfki.hu !
Have a nice summer vacation - and I am looking forward
to seeing you in Budapest!
With the best regards,
Laszlo Pusztai
(on behalf of the organisers)
PS Below please find the two previous announcements.
=================================================
1st (proper) announcement: (16 May 2003)
=================================================
Dear Collegues,
About 3 months ago, a preliminary announcement was made (see
last section
of this message) that the 2nd Reverse Monte Carlo Conference
would be
organised in Hungary. Many of you responded positively - for which
I would
like to thank, of course! - and therefore I thought it would be
worthwhile
pursuing the idea.
This is now the first official announcement of the meeting
'THE FIRST FIFTEEN YEARS OF REVERSE MONTE CARLO
MODELLING'
which will be held in
BUDAPEST, HUNGARY,
in
HOTEL SUNLIGHT
between
9-11 OCTOBER, 2003.
THE VENUE: Hotel Sunlight is situated on the hilly side of the
Danube, at
the boundary of the forests of Buda; also, in the close
proximity of the sites of several physics-oriented research
institutes that are hosted within the old 'KFKI' (Central
Research Instite for Physics) site. It is reachable by
frequent
public transport connection: downtown Budapest is about 35
minutes by bus and underground.
There are 50 hotel rooms reserved in Hotel Sunlight for the
participants of the 2nd RMC Conference, for the period of 8-
12
October, 2003 (4 nights). (The rooms can be used as single,
double or even three-bed rooms.)
The meeting room of the hotel can host an audience of up
to 80
people. It is equipped by all standard presentation tools
(including a projector for computer-based talks).
TOPICS: All aspects (theory, code developments, applications) of
the Reverse Monte Carlo and related methods, including
EPSR,
MAXENT, MCGR, etc...
PROGRAMME: To be organised so that scientific information
exchange can be maximised. Talks of about 20-30 minutes
are foreseen, with ample time for (public and personal)
discussions.
WWW: A conference web site will be set up soon.
COSTS: No 'conference fee', as such, will be applied.
The estimated price of the accomodation (based on single
occupancy of the hotel room) will be about 250 Euros for 4
nights, including breakfast, lunch and refreshments for the
conference days (9,10 and 11 October). These costs will
have to
be paid directly to the hotel (payment details will be given as
soon as price negotiations have been finished).
There will be a 'Conference Dinner' on the 10th of October,
for
which tickets will be available upon arrival.
If publishing the proceedings will require additional payment,
it will also be due upon arrival.

Any further questions, suggestions will be appriciated.
I am looking forward to seeing you in Budapest!

would be
interested. Thanks!
