We are pleased to announce a focused symposium on

"Neutrons and X-Ray Scattering as Probes of Multiscale Phenomena"

at the Materials Research Society Fall 2004 Meeting, Nov. 29 -
Dec. 3 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA. This symposium will
emphasize new experimental methods, results, and data interpretation from
a wide range of systems, including polymers, biomaterials, metals,
electronic and magnetic materials, and complex fluids. Contributions from
neutron and x-ray researchers in all areas of materials science are
welcomed.

Abstracts must be submitted to the MRS website by JUNE 22, 2004 at:
http://www.mrs.org/meetings/fall2004/abstract_submission.html

Topics will include but are not limited to the following areas (with
the listed invited speakers):

Ultra-small angle scattering and multiscale morphologies
T. Rieker (NSF), A. Allen (NIST)

Inelastic neutron scattering
Alexei Sokolov (U. Akron)

Scattering as a probe of mechanical properties
R. Spolenak (MPI), O. Thomas (Aix-Marseille)

Orbital ordering in transition metal oxides
H. Tjeng (Cologne), J. Thomas (BNL), R. Osborn (ANL)

Quantum phase transitions and associated phenomena
H. von Lohneysen (Karlsruhe), M. Braden (Cologne)

Neutrons as a probe of novel materials and novel phenomena
J. Lynn (NIST), T. Kimura (LANL), V. Kiryukin (Rutgers)

A joint session is anticipated with:
Symposium BB: Multicomponent Polymer Systems-Phase Behavior, Dynamics,
and Applications

We look forward to your participation and hope to see you in the fall!
