[Neutron] Open Postdoctoral Position

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE


Western Kentucky University, Applied Physics Institute is seeking 
applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the 
application of nuclear methods for elemental analysis of materials. 
The successful applicant will join an active group developing non-
destructive methods for bulk analysis and characterization.  This is a 
one year renewable position, depending on performance and grant funds 
availability.  Research areas and projects are described on the 
institute website: http://www.wku.edu/API/.  Facilities include sealed 
tube 14 MeV and 2.5 MeV neutron generators, 1-MeV RFQ and 2.5-MeV Van 
de Graaff accelerators, isotopic neutron sources (252Cf, Pu-Be), and a 
large variety of data acquisition electronic units, neutron detectors, 
and HPGe, NaI(T1) and BGO gamma-ray detectors.

Qualifications:
•	Ph.D. Degree in Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or 
Applied Physics, and a strong background in Neutron Physics, Nuclear 
Electronics, Data Acquisition Systems, and Monte Carlo methods is 
required.
•	Must be able to work with hazardous, explosive, and 
radioactive materials.
•	Must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
•	Must be able to work both independently and with undergraduate 
students who require occasional supervision.

Desired Qualifications:
•	Experience in design and construction of nuclear 
instrumentation and electronics.
•	Experience in nuclear-based bulk detection of CRNE threats.
•	Expertise in the following computer languages C,C++, VC++, 
VBASIC, Labview, and operating systems Windows 9x/XP/CE, and 
Unix/Linux 9.
•	Expertise in application of MCNP for transport of 
neutrons/photons.


Expected Salary: $42,000 annually.  Salary is commensurate with 
qualifications and experience.
