PhD position in hydrogen storage materials research at JRC Petten and TU
Delft

Project Description:
Hydrogen storage is a main bottleneck for the realisation of an energy
economy with hydrogen
as an energy carrier. The activity consists in the first instance of the
execution of hydrogen sorption
and de-sorption experiments to assess sorption performance of the
selected materials.
In order to understand the mechanisms that are at the basis of the
hydrogen - material interaction,
a second part of the PhD activity will consist of a more fundamental
study by means of neutron
scattering techniques and first-principles modelling, focussing on
microstructural aspects. In
addition to these techniques, other microscopic and microstructural
equipments will be used when
necessary. One or more of the following material systems will be the
object of the investigation:
* Metal-organic frameworks.
* Complex light metal hydride systems.
* Mg based materials, with catalysts and as nanomaterials.
The work will be performed at the Joint Research Centre in Petten and
partly at the
University of Delft, Faculty TNW, Department R3, Section - Fundamental
Aspects of Materials
and Energy (FAME).
