Max-Planck-Institut für
Metallforschung
Max Planck Institute for Metals Research
Within the research initiative of the Max Planck Society,

                             "Materials Research
                                         at the
                    New Neutron Source FRM II",

a Postdoctoral Scientist

position is available in the department of Helmut Dosch.

The candidate will carryout scientific research in the field
of interface science and technology employing
neutron/X-ray reflectometry. The position also involves
support for the operation of the reflectometer N-REX+at
the new research neutron source FRM II in Garching near
Munich.

The neutron/X-ray reflectometer N-REX+ is a novel design
allowing simultaneous (polarized) neutron and X-ray re-
flectometry. Furthermore, the instrument supports off-
specular grazing incidence neutron scattering experiments
by the new neutron spin-echo technique SERGIS.

The candidate will join the Max Planck research team
operating the instrument N-REX+ at FRM II and carry out
research at the FRM II and at other neutron and synchro-
tron facilities worldwide.

The position can be extended up to 5 years.

Background: PhD in physics, materials science or related
fields.

Start date: July/August 2006 (or slightly later). Duration of
the appointment: up to December 2008.
