Dear Colleagues,

The University of Newcastle in Australia has announced a new Postdoc
scheme aimed at people < 5 years out from their PhD to be appointed at
Academic Level B for a period of 4-5 years.

As leader of the Structures of Advanced Materials Group, I am
interested
in sponsoring applications from suitably qualified applied
crystallographers, chemists, physicists, materials scientists or
engineers wishing to work in any of the following areas:

i) Structural investigations of relaxor ferroelectric ceramics

ii) In-situ time-resolved X-ray and neutron diffraction studies of
materials during solid-state synthesis eg Mn+1AXn phases (Ti3SiC2,
Ti2AlC, Ti3AlC2 etc)

iii) Diffraction based rapid kinetic studies (i.e. 100 millisecond
time-scales or better) of materials either during combustion synthesis
or
in simulated service (AC electric field, magnetic field, cyclical
stress
etc).

I am also willing to sponsor candidates with ideas of their own in the
general area of structure-property relationships in advanced materials
or structural studies of advanced materials.

It is expected that extensive use will be made of neutron diffraction
facilities at the new OPAL research reactor especially the high
resolution and high intensity powder diffractometers which will match
the world's best for most applications.
