Open positions for 3 Post docs and 2 PhDs at Institute for Energy Technology
in Norway
There are 3 openings for post doctoral fellowships (each position for 3
years) and 2 PhD fellowships (each for 3 years) at Physics Department, IFE.
The positions involve development and optimization of novel materials for
storage of hydrogen. Two of the post doctoral fellowships will address
nanomaterials for hydrogen storage while the third post doc position is
related to complex hydrides (aluminium- and boron-based compounds). One of
the PhD fellowships is related to complex hydrides and the second PhD
position addresses the use of X-ray synchrotron radiation at ESRF in
Grenoble, France to study materials for hydrogen storage. During the 3-years
period this PhD-candidate should stay at ESRF for 9 months. The funding is
partly coming from The Research Council of Norway via the programs RENERGI,
NANOMAT and SYNKROTRON and partly from the European Commission
(NANOHy-project). The projects involve different degree of national
collaboration, national partners are University of Oslo, NTNU and the
research institute SINTEF. The projects will also be linked to other
projects in the group at IFE.
IFE has a strong focus on hydrogen as the future energy carrier. More than
30 researchers, post docs, PhD fellows and Master students are working on
hydrogen related activities at IFE. We are involved in number of national
and international projects (e.g. Nordic projects, several EU-funded
projects, projects within the International Energy Agency and project in
Japan and USA).
Main task:
The overall objective is development and optimization of novel materials for
storage of hydrogen. The work will be experimental, but with strong links to
modeling. The work will involve:
* Synthesis, and in particular use of ball-milling techniques.
* Diffraction studies, X-ray diffraction (lab source and synchrotron
at ESRF), neutron diffraction (mainly at our own JEEP II reactor, but also
other sources) and SEM.
* Thermal characterization: PCT, thermal desorption spectroscopy ,
HP-DSC etc.
Because of the network of collaborators also other experimental techniques
will be available.
Qualifications:
* For PhD fellowships: Master-degree or similar
* For post doc fellowships: PhD or similar.
* Scientific background in materials science, inorganic chemistry,
solid state physics or similar topics (background in metal hydride research
is of course an advantage).
