The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is
Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using
neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world,
reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific
instruments. The Institute welcomes 1700 visiting scientists per year to
carry out world-class research in solid-state physics, crystallography,
soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. Funded
primarily by its three founder members: France, Germany and the United
Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration agreements
with 9 other European countries. The Science Division currently has a
vacancy for a:
*RESEARCH SCIENTIST - cristallography (m/f)*
****/Duties :/
Working within the Diffraction Group at ILL you will be involved in
day-to-day running of a high flux neutron powder diffractometer. The
range of science covered in the Diffraction Group is very broad going
from structural aspects of hard condensed matter physics (structural
phase transitions, magnetism, high pressure, etc.) to chemical
crystallography (small and medium molecules, hydrogen bonding, etc). We
are looking in particular for a second instrument responsible for the
D20 diffractometer. In addition to carrying out a personal research
programme, you will also participate in the development and operation of
the instrument and assist ILL's visiting scientists with their
experiments on diffraction instruments at ILL.
/Qualifications and experience:/**
Ph.D. in physics or chemistry.
We are particularly interested in highly motivated candidates with
experience in crystallography and powder diffraction. A good knowledge
and practise of experimental neutron scattering techniques and their
corresponding sample environments, as well as computer programming
skills, are highly desirable.
The post represents an excellent opportunity for a young postdoctoral
scientist to develop expertise, broaden experience and interact with
leading scientists from around the world. Applications from more
experienced scientists who are able to obtain a secondment period from
their home institute will also be considered.
* /Notes:
/Fixed-term contract: 5 years./
/*Generous company benefits (adaptation and expatriation allowance),
relocation assistance and language courses may be offered.
Further information can be obtained by contacting the head of the
Diffraction Group: Dr. J. Rodriguez-Carvajal, email: jrc at ill.fr or via

Please submit your application on line, with a list of publications, no
later than *14.07.2008*, via our website: http://www.ill.fr/careers
(Vacancy reference: *08/18*).
