Dear Colleagues,
On 25 July 1958 the first research reactor in Berlin became critical. This date marked the beginning of research with neutrons at the Hahn-Meitner-Institut.
We want to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this event with a scientific symposium that will take place on
14 and 15 July 2008
at the lecture hall of the Helmholtz Centre Berlin for Materials and Energy (until recently Hahn-Meitner-Institut) in Berlin-Wannsee.
The programme will include
* Presentations on the past and the future of neutron research in Berlin
* Scientific talks on current trends in neutron science by Andrew Taylor (ISIS)
Kazu Kakurai (JAEA) and other renowned researchers
* Poster session presenting research of younger researchers working with neutrons
For further information on the programme and the registration please visit the website of the symposium: http://www.hmi.de/events/50jahre/ or write to: 50jahre at helmholtz-berlin.de
With best regards
Michael Steiner
P.S.
In January 2009, the Hahn-Meitner-Institut will merge with BESSY to form a new centre within the Helmholtz Association - the Helmholtz Centre Berlin for Materials and Energy. For formal reasons, the HMI assumed the new name in May 2008.
