Applications are sought for an EPSRC studentship, which is fully funded
for UK and EU residents, to take part in a programme to develop the
technique of coherent inelastic scattering from polycrystals. Because of
the complexity of the data produced, this work involves the fitting of
simulations of the coherent inelastic scattering, averaged over
orientation, to experimental data. While the software being produced is
entirely generic and will be made available to collaborators interested
in a variety of problems, our group is particularly interested in
investigations into the dynamics of nanomaterials and of (deuterated)
hydrogen storage compounds.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to make informal enquiries to Dr
Daniel Roach (d.roach at salford.ac.uk). They should normally have or
expect to achieve a first class MPhys/MSci degree in Physics or a
related subject, although exceptionally applicants with a BSc(Hons)
would be considered. Applications will be processed when received but
the final closing date will be 1st May 2009.
