[Neutron] Position Available - Inelastic X-ray Scattering Beamline Scientist - National Synchrotron Light Source II

The Experimental Facility Division of the National Synchrotron Light
Source II (NSLS-II) Project at Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking
a qualified candidate as the Inelastic X-ray Scattering Beamline
Scientist to join the effort in the development of an beamline aiming to
achieve an ultrahigh resolution of 0.1meV for inelastic x-ray scattering
experiments. The technique complements inelastic neutron scattering in
many ways and is expected to present rich research opportunities in the
study of the dynamics in soft condensed matter, phonons and phonon
linewidth in strongly correlated materials and vibration dynamics under
high pressure and temperature. The candidate is expected to participate
in the technical implementation of the beamline, including its design,
construction, and commissioning, interact with the user community and
develop a scientific research program that utilizes the research
strength of the beamline.
 
The position requires a Ph.D. in physics or related fiends, plus 2-5
years of postdoctoral experience in synchrotron and/or neutron research
and applications. The candidate must have excellent written and oral
communications skills and be able to interact effectively with a diverse
group of scientists, technical staff, and users. Experience in inelastic
x-ray/neutron scattering and in the construction or operation of a
synchrotron/neutron beamline and/or in crystal optics is highly
desirable Appointment will be made commensurate with the qualification
and experience of the successful candidate and will be up to the level
