A workshop on Neutron Reflectivity from model biological membranes.
1st/2nd October, 2009.
The Cosener¹s House, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, UK.
Neutron reflection is emerging as a powerful technique for studying the
structure and function of biological membranes. The high resolution
available normal to the interface, coupled with the advantages of selective
deuteration to highlight¹ individual components within complex systems,
offer many advantages for structural studies of membranes.
Since reflectivity requires large sample areas, it is necessary to fabricate
model bilayers supported on substrates. There has been considerable effort
in recent years in developing model bilayers for reflectivity studies, and
these bilayers are now used by several groups for membranes reflectivity
experiments, both at ISIS and the ILL.
The aims of this workshop are firstly to present the latest model bilayer
systems and associated sample environment equipment available to users
wishing to study biomembranes at ISIS/ILL, and secondly to discuss the
future requirements of the user community, so that provision for
biomembranes research can continue to be developed and improved. There will
also be invited talks on the recent highlights of biomembranes research at
ISIS/ILL.
Invited Speakers:
Tommy Nylander, University of Lund.
Giovanna Fragnetto, ILL
Jayne Lawrence, Kings College.
Rebecca Green, Reading University.
Annela Seddon, Imperial College.
Jeremy Bradshaw, Edinburgh University
Registration for the meeting is free, for participants requiring
accommodation registration is required by 7th September.
