PhD SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR 2010
------------------------------------
A Marsden-funded PhD Scholarship is available for the beginning of 2010 at the Department of Chemistry, University of Auckland, New Zealand, working with Dr Duncan McGillivray looking at the effects of oxidative stress on model cellular membranes. The research would involve looking at the structural and dynamic changes in phospholipid bilayers using neutron reflectometry and other surface-related techniques, with an aim to understanding how changes are linked to aging-related diseases such as Alzheimer's.
The position would be suitable for a candidate with an Honours or Masters degree in Chemistry or Biophysics, or any related degree, interested in using physical measurement techniques on biological problems. STRONG CANDIDATES FROM ANY BACKGROUND WILL BE CONSIDERED.
The research will involve regular travel to Sydney to use ANSTO facilities, which will require obtaining a security clearance if successful.
The scholarship will provide a tax-free stipend of $25 000 (NZD) / year for 3 years (with no required teaching responsibilities), and all university fees paid.
Enquiries should be made, before 20 December 2009, to:
