The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is
Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using
neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world,
reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific
instruments. The Institute welcomes 1700 visiting scientists per year to
carry out world-class research in solid-state physics, crystallography,
soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. Funded
primarily by its three founder members: France, Germany and the United
Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration agreements
with 11 other European countries. The Science Division currently has a
vacancy for a:
*POSTDOCTORAL POSITION in soft condensed matter (m/f)*
The ILL and the ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility), in
consultation with their respective user communities and their governing
bodies, are setting up a Partnership for Soft Condensed Matter (PSCM).
The long-term mission of the PSCM is to streamline neutron and
synchrotron based Soft Matter Research to address 21^st century
challenges in nanomaterials, biotechnology, environmental and energy
sciences. Laboratories are currently being set up on-site.
**
Depending on your qualifications, you will work in one or more of the
following areas of interest for the PSCM:
- in-plane structure of soft matter/bio-relevant films; development of
data analysis tools, complementary techniques and sample preparation;
- development of in-situ light scattering techniques on small angle
scattering instruments;
- rheometry at surfaces (/i.e. /Structure and dynamics in flow in
confined geometries (eg microfluidics); dynamics including rheology at
surfaces and interfaces and arrested states in bulk);
- synthetic chemistry of deuterated monomers/natural lipid extraction
from deuterated biomass.
Other relevant projects can be considered if exploitation of PSCM
equipment is involved.
/Qualifications and experience:/
You should hold a PhD in either physics, physical chemistry or organic
chemistry/biochemistry. Interest in the complementary use of neutrons
and synchrotron radiation is an advantage.
**/Notes:// /
This is a fixed-term contract of 12-14 months. End of contract: December
2011.
Generous company benefits (expatriation allowance), relocation
assistance and language courses may be offered.
