The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is
Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using
neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world,
reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific
instruments. The Institute welcomes more than 2000 visiting scientists
per year to carry out world-class research in solid-state physics,
crystallography, soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental
physics. Funded primarily by its three founder members: France, Germany
and the United Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration
agreements with 12 other countries. The Science Division currently has a
vacancy for a:
*SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST (m/f)*
**The ILL's Diffraction Group is currently seeking a scientist to lead
the group's activities in single crystal neutron diffraction and
polarised neutrons.
You will develop a scientific programme, in collaboration with external
users, in at least one of the following fields: strongly correlated
electron systems (heavy fermions, superconductivity, giant
magneto-resistance, metal insulator transitions, etc), multiferroics,
spin densities, magnetic frustrated systems. You will be expected to
contribute to ongoing technical and instrumental work as well as to the
development and preparation of proposals for new initiatives. You will
be expected to assume responsibility for user support on specific ILL
instruments (in particular D3 and D10).You should be able to participate
in software development for single crystal data treatment and contribute
actively to a dynamic, multidisciplinary research group.
/Qualifications and experience:
**/You hold a PhD in condensed matter physics or an equivalent field and
have at least ten years of postdoctoral research experience in neutron
scattering.
You are able to show:
* strong experience in magnetism, crystallography and neutron
diffraction
* a record of technical excellence and achievement in neutron
scattering studies of magnetic materials, as reflected in
peer-reviewed publications and presentations at internationally
recognised conferences
* familiarity with a range of neutron scattering techniques and
experience with the execution of neutron experiments at low
temperatures, high magnetic fields and high pressures
* familiarity with theory in the field and appropriate data analysis
techniques
* excellence in communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal
skills
* reliability and an ability to work efficiently, conscientiously,
and professionally in a team environment
* proven collaborative research experience, and an ability to
establish effective and productive partnerships.

*This post is permanent.
Generous company benefits (adaptation and expatriation allowance),
relocation assistance and language courses may be offered.
