Postdoctoral Position in X-ray and Neutron Scattering studies of Correlated Electron Systems at the Helmholtz Center Berlin
The Helmholtz Center Berlin for Materials and Energy (blockedhttp://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/), is a German National Laboratory. It hosts the Berlin Neutron scattering centre and the Berlin Synchrotron Radiation Source BESSY, which are outstanding user facilities open to scientist from all over the world. The Magnetism Department undertakes world leading research in quantum magnetism, superconductivity and novel materials. It offers a state-of-the-art materials synthesis program as well as a full range of standard sample characterization facilities including x-ray laue and powder diffraction, SQUID, transport and thermal measurements.
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of condensed matter. The position is to use primarily the experimental techniques of x-ray and neutron scattering to explore the physics of correlated electron systems and emphasis will be given to the investigation of quantum magnetism. The X-ray and neutron experiments will take place both in-house and at external sources, and bulk properties measurements will be used as complimentary techniques. Experimental data will be used to test and develop current theoretical models. The candidate should have or be close to achieving a PhD in condensed matter physics. Experience of x-ray and neutron scattering are important. The appointment is for two years.
As HZB cares about equal opportunities for men and women scientists, qualified women are especially encouraged to apply. Handicapped applicants will be given preference to others of equal qualification.
For informal inquiries, please contact Prof Bella Lake (email: bella.lake at helmholtz-berlin.de<mailto:bella.lake at helmholtz-berlin.de> phone +49-(0)30-8062-42058).
The deadline for application is 31st May 2011. Applicants should send a cover letter, detailed CV and the contact details of three academic referees to Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH, Abt. Personal und Soziales, Hahn-Meitner-Platz 1, D-14109 Berlin, Germany, quoting reference no. M 2011/4
