I would like to post the following to the neutron mailing list:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory has an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Research Staff Member with expertise in neutron scattering. The full job description follows:
Position Title
Research Staff Member - Neutron & X-Ray Scattering (NB50245784)
Job Description
The X-Ray and Neutron Scattering and Microscopy Group in the Materials Science and Technology Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (www.ornl.gov) is seeking a mid-career to senior level materials scientist with a specialty in the area of Neutron and/or X-Ray
Scattering basic energy sciences research. Applications are invited from candidates with demonstrated track records for conceiving and developing innovative forefront materials research programs leading to advances in fundamental understanding of condensed
matter science, materials physics, nanostructures, or other energy-related research areas. The successful candidate will benefit from interactions with the diverse experimental and theoretical materials research programs at ORNL and from the forefront ORNL research
capabilities, including the Spallation Neutron Source, the High Flux Isotope Reactor, the National Center for Computational Science, the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences, and state-of-the art electron microscopy facilities.
In addition, the X-ray and Neutron Scattering and Microscopy Group has strong, ongoing programs focused on using advanced techniques at leading synchrotron x-ray facilities such as the Advanced Photon Source (APS), the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II under construction) and the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). In particular, the X-ray and Neutron Scattering and Microscopy Group exploits novel x-ray and neutrontechniques based on user facilities to investigate the local microstructure in technologically-important materials and advanced materials processing techniques in conjunction with collaborative, first-principles theory and modeling.
Qualifications
The position requires a Ph.D. in physics, materials science, applied physics, chemistry or a closely related science and engineering discipline. A minimum of 5 years of experience and a preexisting scientific reputation in the fields of neutron diffraction is a requirement. Excellent written and oral presentation skills are essential. Experience in leading and developing technical programs will also be an important asset.
REMARKS: No clearance required.
