Group Leader - Electrical Engineering
The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a "Group Leader - Electrical Engineering".

Description of position/department
The Electrical Engineering group will be part of the Instrument Support Division under the Science Directorate. The Instrument Support Division provides the technological tools required for the design, construction and operation of the neutron instruments at the ESS. The groups in the Instrument Support Division will undertake development work to ensure that the instruments are equipped to perform world-leading science, in a close dialogue with the instrument scientists. 

Description of main responsibilities
The successful candidate will establish and lead the Electrical Engineering group at the ESS. The Electrical Engineering group will be responsible for the design and maintenance of highly integrated systems such as motion control, safety interlock, but also for general automation, including electronic and robotic systems, and cabling of all the neutron instruments, which are currently being designed at ESS. The immediate focus will be on liaising with external groups as well as the instruments scientists to define standards and to establish instrument motion control systems. 

Qualifications
Academic qualification: 
PhD in engineering or physics.
Essential experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of highly integrated systems, with a strong element of standardization.
Desirable experience:
Management of a team of engineers and electrical technicians, project management incl. budgeting and reporting.
Experience of working in an international environment is essential.
Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.
Duration & Location
The position is a permanent position. The Electrical Engineering group will be based at the ESS in Lund.

The European Spallation Source ESS AB will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world’s most powerful neutron source. ESS will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials – from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules. The ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by Sweden and Denmark. The ESS will be built in Lund, Sweden, by a collaboration of European scientists and engineers. ESS is planned to produce the first neutrons by 2019. When the facility is in full operation 2025, ESS has around 450 employees.
