PostDoc Position - Neutron Optics
The Neutron Optics Group of the Instrument Support Division at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Post Doc – Neutron Optics.

Description of position/department
The Neutron Optics Group is part of the Instrument Support Division under the Science Directorate. The Instrument Support Division provides the technological tools required for the design, construction and operation of the neutron instruments at ESS. The Neutron Optics group focuses on enhancing the performance of neutron sources, moderators and beam delivery systems at ESS.

Description of main responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide expertise for the Neutron Optics Group and work on innovative methods and designs for the transport of neutrons beams to experiments. The work will address issues such as neutron transport performance, coupling of guide systems to the moderators, and neutron supermirrors with reduced γ-ray production rate.

Qualifications
Academic qualification

PhD in physics or any of the natural sciences, or the ability to demonstrate equivalent working experience and knowledge.
Desirable experience:

Experience in optics, preferably with respect to neutron scattering instruments. A strong computational and/or mathematical background, with experience in developing models of optical systems will be advantageous.
Experience of working in an international environment. 
Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.
NB! Both candidates who have recently finished their PhD and those with several years of relevant work experience are encouraged to apply

The European Spallation Source ESS AB will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world’s most powerful neutron source. ESS will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials – from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules. The ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by Sweden and Denmark. The ESS will be built in Lund, Sweden, by a collaboration of European scientists and engineers. ESS is planned to produce the first neutrons by 2019. When the facility is in full operation 2025, ESS has around 450 employees.
