Dear Colleague,
You are kindly invited to attend the Advanced Seminar on “Perspectives for Neutron Science in Novel & Extreme conditions” which will be held in Zaragoza, Spain from the 27th to the 31st of May 2012.
This workshop will address a wide scientific community with the aim to identify the scientific drivers requiring novel and extreme conditions, and to determine how the neutron scattering techniques could contribute. Scientists not necessarily belonging to the neutron scattering community will be brought together with engineers and instrument specialists. Scientists will present the needs and raise questions to be addressed by the instrument specialists and engineers. From these exchanges, we anticipate that novel and extreme sample environment equipment and instruments will be discussed, and that new scientific areas will later benefit from neutron scattering techniques.
Agenda: widening neutron science
Sunday 27th May - Reception
Monday 28th May – Current state of the art of neutron science under extreme conditions
Tuesday 29th – Thursday 31st – Which science could be investigated with unlimited performance? What are the perspectives in the following fields:
High Pressure
High magnetic and Electric fields
Low and High temperatures
Soft matter equipment
Combined techniques, robotics, etc.
On the first day, we shall present the current capabilities: how it works and what can be done with it at present. The following days, we will discuss the science that could be investigated if the performance of the techniques was unlimited and try to find ways to overcome the present technical limits.

We look forward to hearing from you, and will be delighted to answer any questions you may have.
Yours sincerely,
The Organizing Committee
