The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is
Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using
neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world,
reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific
instruments. The Institute welcomes more than 2000 visiting scientists
per year to carry out world-class research in solid-state physics,
crystallography, soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental
physics. Funded primarily by its three founder members: France, Germany
and the United Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration
agreements with 12 other countries. The Science Division currently has a
vacancy :

**

*Head of the Time-of-Flight and High-Resolution Group (m/f)*

**

As a member of the Science Division, which is organized into five broad
instrument groups, the Head of the Time-of-flight and High-Resolution
(ToF/HR) Groupoccupies a key position at the ILL.

The Tof/HRteam operates a suite of 8 neutron spectrometers covering the
full range from sub-picosecond to microsecond dynamics. The spectrum of
techniques exploited encompasses diffraction, time-of-flight,
backscattering and spin-echo spectroscopy. The instruments of the ToF/HR
group have recently undergone an ambitious upgrade program that will be
actively pursued in the future. The breadth of the Tof/HR instrument
suite is reflected in the areas of science that it covers: from
fundamental investigations in solid-state physics via chemistry and
materials science to biology.

As the ToF/HR Group Leader, you will:

  * Manage a team of scientists and technicians with an emphasis on
    group cohesion
  * Orient the group's actions towards high quality of service and
    scientific excellence
  * Develop strategies for the technical evolution and the optimum
    scientific use of ToF/HR instruments
  * Promote scientific life both within the Tof/HR group and more
    broadly throughout the ILL
  * Pursue a vigorous personal research program
  * Establish strong links with Universities and research laboratories
