Chief Instruments Project Engineer
The Programme Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a "Chief Instruments Project Engineer".

Description of position/division
The Chief Instruments Project Engineer will be placed in the ESS Programme Directorate and will report to the Programme Director. She/he will be in-charge of the construction and installation of the ESS neutron instrument suite. 

Description of main responsibilities
The Chief Instruments Project Engineer will coordinate activities closely with instrument scientists and engineers in the Science Directorate, as well as coordinate activities between ESS and in-kind partners from the ESS partner countries. As a primary activity the Chief Instruments Project Engineer will be given the task of preparing ESS for instrument construction by implementing construction codes and specification for ESS and its in-kind partners.    

Qualifications
Higher education degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
Strong experience in instrument construction
Project management in a scientific facility
Experience in instrument construction and project management in a leading neutron scattering facility, are desirable
Experience as line-manager for a team of engineers and/or technicians is desirable
Experience of working in an international environment is essential
Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage

The European Spallation Source ESS AB will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world’s most powerful neutron source. ESS will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials – from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules. The ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by Sweden and Denmark. The ESS will be built in Lund, Sweden, by a collaboration of European scientists and engineers. ESS is planned to produce the first neutrons by 2019. When the facility is in full operation 2025, ESS has around 450 employees.
