Rosen Prize: Call for Submissions

The Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) is pleased to announce the call for submissions for the 24th Louis Rosen Prize.  The Prize, consisting of $1000 and a plaque, is awarded for the most outstanding Ph.D. thesis based on experimental or theoretical research performed at LANSCE.  Theses based on work in any area of science or technology at the Lujan Neutron Scattering Center, Weapons Neutron Research, Ultracold Neutrons, and Proton Radiography facilities are all welcome.  Criteria include the originality and scientific impact of the research and the student's contribution to the research.  The thesis must have been completed between Oct 1st 2010 and Oct 1st 2012 to be eligible for the 24th Prize.

A committee of LANSCE User Group members selected by its Executive Committee will judge the nominations for the Rosen Prize.  The Prize will be presented at a topical conference at which the recipient will present his/her research.  The recipient will be reimbursed for travel to the conference.

To nominate a thesis for the Rosen Prize, the following information must be received no later than December 15th, 2012.


  1.  A PDF of the thesis;
  2.  The student's curriculum vitae;
  3.  A one to two page statement from the student describing his/her contribution to the research, an assessment of the importance of the research, and publications resulting from the research; and
  4.  A statement from the student's research director describing the student's role in the research and its scientific impact.
