PhD student position in Materials science, in particular Thin Film Physics
Placed at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM) University of Linköping, Linköping, Sweden.
Job description
Theoretical material science investigations with relevance for development of new types of neutron detectors.
Quantum mechanical calculations and thermodynamics analysis of the phase stability of disordered materials based on Boron (B) and Gadolinium (Gd).
Density functional theory calculations of materials properties and processes that can give understanding of the synthesis and usability of materials as thin solid films.
The PhD-studies will be performed in a large academic research group in Linköping with both experimental and theoretical colleagues as well as in collaboration with researchers at the new neutron research facility European Spallation Source (ESS) that is under construction in Lund, Sweden.
Your theoretical results will be investigated by experimentally focused colleagues. The knowledge obtained can inspire the development of new materials for the scientific application of neutron technology.
Requirements
The applicant should hold a master degree in Physics, chemistry or equivalent. Good knowledge in quantum mechanics and solid state physics is required. The applicant should be fluent in spoken and written English.
Equal opportunity
Linköpings universitet shall continue to develop as an attractive and creative work place characterized by equal opportunities, and therefore works actively to promote diversity and gender equality.
Starting date
According to agreement, as soon as possible.
