Dear colleagues,

After last year's nice event, we have decided to organise a second
edition of the workshop "Public Awareness of Research Infrastructures".
PARI2017 on "Communicating the importance of science to society" will be
held on May 29-30, 2017 at ESO. Registration is now open and the
deadline for submission of abstracts is February 10, 2017.

<http://www.frm2.tum.de/PARI-2017/>

* Venue: European Southern Observatory, Garching near Munich, Germany

* Date & Time: May 29 (afternoon) and May 30 (whole day), 2017

* Deadline for abstract submission: February 10, 2017

This conference aims to be a hands-on forum for communications and
public relations officers to share their experiences and expertise. The
aim is thatparticipants returnhome with new ideas for their work, by
learning how and with which meansother research institutions are
communicating the importance of science and of research infrastructures
to society.

This time the EIROforum will join the European Association of National
Research Facilities (ERF-AISBL), the European Southern Observatory, and
the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ) in the organization.

We are glad to count on a number of prestigious (and already confirmed)
keynote speakers: Ana Noronha (Executive Director, Ciência Viva,
Portugal), Ana Adi (Head of Department of Corporate Communications,
Quadriga University of Applied Sciences, Berlin), Brian Trench (Former
Senior Lecturer and Head of School at Dublin City University; President,
PCST network), and Michel Claessens (Communications Manager, ITER,
European Commission).

Topics open for abstract submission include:

- Evaluation of communication activities and impact

- Public engagement through visitor programmes and exhibitions

- Unconventional outreach: thinking out of the box

- Funding for communication outside the known pathways

- Engaging the scientists

- Using online social media channels

- Enhancing collaboration at research campuses, clusters, and projects

- Branding and visual identity

- Communicating on a small budget

- Issues Management and Crisis Communication

We hope we can count on you to make this an interesting workshop!

Best regards,

PARI's organising committee
