Dear colleagues,

Registration for the Workshop on Perspectives and Applications of Deep Learning for Accelerated Scientific Discovery at next generation X-ray and Neutron Sources that will take place at The Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark on 26-27 September 2019 is now open!

https://indico.nbi.ku.dk/event/1256/

The program will consist of 3 plenary sessions on Thursday the 26th given by

Christian Igel, Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark)
Toby Perring, Senior scientist at the ISIS Facility (UK)
Abbas Ourmazd, Distinguished Professor of Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (USA)

followed by afternoon working groups, led by

Harald Reichert, Director of Research in Physical Sciences at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility - ESRF (France)
Bill David, Professor of Materials Chemistry in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, University of Oxford, and STFC Senior Fellow at the ISIS Facility (UK)
Troels Petersen, Associate Professor at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark)

Invited panel members will discus (in closed sections) how DL methods can become more generically applicable to a wide range of scattering experiments, including data analysis, bias-free modelling and optimization of experimental protocols.

On Friday, 27th, conveners will present the outcomes of the previous day’s working-groups and the meeting will close with a discussion and presentation of an overall summary. A tentative roadmap on how to make progress in the application of DL for Accelerated Scientific Discovery at next generation X-ray and Neutron Sources will also be proposed.

There is no registration fee for the workshop, but attendance is limited to 40 participants.

The web page will be continuously updated.

Looking very much forward to seeing you on September!

Associate Professor Heloisa N. Bordallo – Niels Bohr Institute - UCPH
Associate Professor Christina Lioma - Department of Computer Science - UCPH
Dr. Jonathan Taylor - Head of Data Management and Software Center Division - ESS
Dr. Dimitri N. Argyriou - Head of Operations Planning - ESS

The workshop is sponsored by the Nordic Neutron Science Programme (NNSP) Capacity Building Networks Soft and biological materials and Low-dimensional structure (https://www.nordforsk.org/en/programmes-and-projects/projects/nnsp-capacity-building).
