Oak Ridge National Laboratory is hosting a data analytics competition<https://smc-datachallenge.ornl.gov/> comprised of six categories based on data sets drawn from active research efforts at the lab and one category based on the COVID-19 Open Research Dataset Challenge (CORD-19<https://www.kaggle.com/allen-institute-for-ai/CORD-19-research-challenge>). Experts and students are called to participate and will compete in different categories.

The Neutron Science data challenge<https://smc-datachallenge.ornl.gov/challenges-2020/challenge-1-2020/> asks competitors to analyze data from the VULCAN diffractometer to gain insight in the changes in structure of a material as a function of temperature. Registration<https://smc-datachallenge.ornl.gov/> is open until June 22. Each downloadable data set is paired with challenge questions at multiple levels of difficulty, and most questions can be solved on a standard workstation. Student and expert entries will be evaluated separately.

Join us for a kick-off webinar on Wednesday May 20 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. We will provide an overview of the seven data analytics challenges and take questions.
