We are seeking scientists for the single crystal time-of-flight Laue diffractometer (TOPAZ), focusing on structural chemistry and chemical crystallography, time-of-flight diffuse scattering diffractometer (CORELLI) optimized for studying the complex magnetic and structural disorder in single-crystal materials at SNS, and the reactor-based Dimensional Extreme Magnetic Neutron Diffractometer (DEMAND) optimized for magnetic and crystal structures for small unit cell systems with polarization capabilities. As a core team member, you will develop a leading scientific program focused on neutron scattering and champion advancements in instrumentation, sample environment, and software to enhance the instrument's performance, capabilities, and user base. Your role includes ensuring safe operation and user support of the beamlines, assisting with experimental setup, data acquisition, and analysis. You will collaborate with users on diverse science topics and have the opportunity to pursue your own research program using ORNL's unique neutron scattering resources.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
* Assist users as a local contact for experimental setup, data acquisition, user training and ensure users are provided with analyzable data.
* Attract users from existing and new areas of research, particularly areas related to your own research, to expand the neutron scattering community and its impact on physical, chemical, and materials sciences.
* Pursue a high-quality research program using neutron diffraction, build national and international collaborations, and publish research results in scientific journals.
* Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
* Help build and maintain an inclusive work environment for a diverse community of users, staff, postdocs, and students.

Basic Qualifications:
* PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, or related field.
* One or more years of relevant work experience beyond PhD. (We encourage applications from all experience levels and will hire commensurate with the applicant’s years of experience.)
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with neutron and/or X-ray single crystal diffraction and single crystal structure analysis.
* A strong record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
