Staff Announcements from the Intense Pulsed Neutron Source (IPNS), Argonne
National
Laboratory
(1) Opening - Staff Scientist Position - GLAD (Glass. Liquids and Amorphous
materials
Diffractometer) Argonne National Laboratory, one of the nation's premier
scientific research and development organizations, located 20 miles
southwest of Chicago, has an opening for a staff scientist. The opening is
in Argonne's Intense Pulsed Neutron Source (IPNS) Division. IPNS is the
world's first major pulsed spallation neutron facility dedicated to
condensed matter research.

We are looking for a highly motivated physicist, chemist or materials
scientist with a strong background in the structure of disordered materials.
The successful applicant is expected to carry out independent research and
collaborative studies with users, and to participate in instrument
development and operation in association with the Glass, Liquid and
Amorphous Materials Diffractometer (GLAD) at IPNS. Candidates should have a
Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, materials science or related field and
significant research experience after the Ph.D. degree.

Some of the research areas that the candidate would likely participate in
include:
1. ion- and electron-conducting polymers
2. glasses and glass-forming liquids
3. liquid metals, molten salts and molecular liquids
4. crystalline systems with local correlations

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and
three reference letters addressed to Dr. James W. Richardson, Jr., Intense
Pulsed Neutron Source Division, Bldg. 360, Argonne National Laboratory, 9700
