Research Scientist position at the ILL

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's
leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL
operates the brightest neutron source in the world, reliably delivering
intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific instruments. The Institute
welcomes 1500 visiting scientists per year to carry out world class
research in solid state physics, crystallography, soft matter, biology,
chemistry and fundamental physics. Funded primarily by its three founder
members: France, Germany and the United Kingdom, the ILL has also signed
scientific collaboration agreements with 6 other European countries.

The Science Division currently has a vacancy in its Time-of-Flight and High
Resolution Group for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST (M/F).
The post represents an excellent opportunity for a young postdoctoral
scientist to develop his/her expertise, broaden his/her experience and
interact with leading scientists from around the world. More experienced
scientists on detachment will also be considered.

The successful candidate will become co-responsible of the IN15 Neutron
Spin Echo spectrometer. This is the highest energy-resolution NSE
spectrometer available worldwide, especially well suited for quasielastic
scattering studies in soft condensed matter and magnetic scattering. The
spectrometer is jointly operated by the ILL, FZ Jülich and HMI Berlin.

The successful candidate must be a highly motivated scientist with a PhD in
chemistry or physics. He/she will be expected to carry out a personal
research programme, assist users in conducting experiments, and participate
in the operation and development of the IN15 instrument, as well as
promoting partnerships in his/her field.
Knowledge of Neutron Scattering would be appreciated. Given the relative
complexity of this technique, an interest in instrumentation, computing and
development is essential, although applications from non-specialists in
this field are explicitly encouraged.

The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract, the
duration of which is foreseen at least three (3) years with possible
extension to five years. In addition to a competitive salary, certain
benefits (reimbursement of removal expenses, adaptation allowance etc.) may
be offered.
Further information can be obtained by contacting the Head of the "Time of
Flight and High Resolution" Group, Dr. H. Schober, tel. (33) 4.76.20.72.06,
e-mail: <mailto:schober at ill.fr>schober at ill.fr, or via the World Wide Web
(<http://www.ill.fr/tof>http://www.ill.fr/tof)

An application with curriculum vitae, a list of publications and the names
of two academic referees should be sent no later than 07.02.2005, quoting
reference 05/01, preferably in electronic form to:
