Team Leader
Chemical Physics
NIST Center for Neutron Research
Applications are invited for candidates to lead the Chemical Physics Team at
the National Institute of Standards and Technology's NIST Center for Neutron
Research (NCNR) located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The NCNR is the leading
neutron research facility in the U.S., hosting more than 800 researchers per
year. The Chemical Physics Team focuses its efforts on the development and
application of inelastic neutron scattering measurement methods for research
on the dynamics of materials and on providing these instruments to the
scientific community.
The team leader provides vision and program direction for a staff of 10 to
15 Ph.D. scientists with diverse backgrounds in physical sciences and
engineering. Current instrumentation provides researchers access to more
than seven orders of magnitude in time (<0.1 ps to 100 ns) a capability
unmatched in the U.S. Examples of current projects include studies of
materials for hydrogen storage and transport, dynamics of confined
molecules, and protein dynamics. The team has established and maintains
significant partnerships with other Federal Agencies, including the National
Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and the Federal Highways
Administration. In addition there are extensive collaborations with other
NIST Divisions and with numerous universities. More information on the NIST
Center for Neutron Research can be found at www.ncnr.nist.gov.
Applicants must have demonstrated experience in leading research and a
record of sustained scholarly accomplishments. Ideal candidates will have
training and experience with neutron scattering methods and with the science
that can be addressed using neutrons. A Ph.D. in the physical sciences or
engineering is required.
The base salary ranges from $103,947-$135,136, depending on qualifications.
U.S. citizenship is required. Applicants should send a resume and three
references (names and contact information only) by post or e-mail to Dr. Dan
Neumann, NIST Center for Neutron Research, NIST, 100 Bureau Drive, MS 8562,
Gaithersburg, MD 20899, dan at nist.gov. Applications should be received by
June 1, 2005.
See NIST-2005-ASF for Physical Science and Engineering announcements.
