[Neutron] Special Symposium at the ACS meeting on neutron scattering

If you are attending the American Chemical Society’s national meeting in
Washington, DC, please join us for two exciting days of invited and
contributed papers in the general areas of:
1) “Neutrons 101” – the basics of neutron scattering, with a focus on
chemistry
2) Novel Solid-State Chemical Systems
3) Polymers, Colloids, Solutions and Biomembranes

Our symposium is presented by the Analytical and Nuclear divisions of the
ACS on Wednesday and Thursday of the meeting, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1; the

The world's premier neutron scattering facility - the Spallation Neutron
Source - will begin producing neutron beams in 2006.  In addition,
existing U.S. neutron facilities are undergoing upgrades.  Because of
this, the U.S. neutron scattering community is poised for strong growth,
and chemists in particular, who are traditionally underrepresented in the
U.S. neutron community relative to European chemists' participation in
their neutron community, are presented with a golden opportunity.

Our symposium's goal is to build scientific excitement and broad
participation among chemists. Our speakers will focus on unanswered
important scientific questions about structure and dynamics of chemical
systems, broadly defined, and how many of these questions
are complementarily or uniquely answered with neutron scattering
techniques. The objective is to feature the most exciting problems and the
role of neutron techniques in their solution. The chemical sciences,
biology, chemical engineering, materials science, and geosciences will all
be represented.
