*_Research Scientist position at ILL_*
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is
Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using
neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world,
reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific
instruments. The Institute welcomes 1500 visiting scientists per year
to carry out world class research in solid state physics,
crystallography, soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental
physics. Funded primarily by its 3 founder members, France, Germany and
the United Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration
agreements with 7 other European countries.
The Science Division currently has a vacancy in its *Time-Of-Flight and
High Resolution Group* for a *RESEARCH SCIENTIST (M/F).*
The post represents an excellent opportunity for a young postdoctoral
scientist to develop expertise, broaden his/her experience and interact
with leading scientists from around the world. Applications from more
experienced scientists able to obtain a secondment period from their
home institute will also be considered.
The successful candidate will be co-responsible for operating and
improving the polarised neutron spectrometer D7. This instrument is used
primarily for the elastic scattering of polarised neutrons for
investigating magnetic solid-state phenomena. Inelastic scattering
experiments are possible in the energy range 0.5 to 10 meV and their
potential is to be increased.
The ILL is seeking a highly motivated scientist with a PhD in physics.
In addition to carrying out his/her own active research programme, the
scientist will be responsible for assisting ILL's visiting scientists
with their experiments and will also participate in operating and
developing the D7 instrument. Duties will also include the promotion of
scientific partnerships in his/her field of research.
Knowledge of neutron scattering techniques would be appreciated. An
interest in instrumentation, computing and development is essential.
Applications from non-specialists are nevertheless openly encouraged.
The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract, the
duration of which will under no circumstances exceed five (5) years In
addition to a competitive salary, certain benefits (partial
reimbursement of removal expenses, adaptation allowance, etc.) may be
offered.
