Postdoctoral Fellowship in Materials Chemistry/Physics

School of Chemistry, The University of Sydney, Australia

Applications are invited from motivated individuals with strong
skills and interests in experimental materials chemistry/physics to
work on a research project concerning novel magnetic oxides. The
project will make particular use of a new floating-zone image furnace
to grow single crystals for neutron scattering experiments, many of
which will be carried out at the nearby OPAL research reactor. [For
more information on OPAL see http://www.ansto.gov.au/ansto/bragg.]

Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) in solid-state chemistry,
physics, or materials science. Preference will be given to applicants
with experience in floating-zone crystal growth and neutron
scattering techniques. Experience in synchrotron X-ray techniques and
magnetic property measurements would be advantageous.

The position is full time from mid-2006 for one year (subject to a
standard probation period for new appointees), with the possibility
of a further offer for up to one year. Please note that applicants
must be eligible for the security clearance required to carry out
experiments at the OPAL research reactor at Lucas Heights.

Remuneration package: AUD$68,155 - $73,161 p.a., which includes a
base salary Level A AUD$57,592 - $61,822 p.a., leave loading, and up
to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation (Australian
retirement funds).
