We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the Berlin Neutron 
Scattering Centre BENSC at the Hahn-Meitner-Institut Berlin, Germany. 
The Hahn-Meitner-Institut is a German National Laboratory and a member 
of the Hermann von Helmholtz Association of National Research Centres 
and has about 800 employees. It hosts the Berlin Neutron Scattering 
Center (BENSC) (http://www.hmi.de/bensc/), a user facility open to 
scientists from all over the world. To probe the structure and dynamics 
of solids and liquids, BENSC provides the national and international 
research community with state-of-the-art neutron scattering equipment 
and expertise.

The successful candidate will participate in experiments investigating 
the spontaneous magnetic ordering of solid 3He at milli-Kelvin 
temperatures. The central aim of this activity is the determination of 
the microscopic nuclear spin structures and the underlying interactions 
by means of neutron diffraction techniques. The dedicated diffractometer 
E10 combined with an ultra-low temperature cryostat is available for 
neutron work. The position includes taking part in the research program 
of the department which focuses on major activities in quantum magnetism 
and novel magnetic oxides. Candidates should have a PhD in physics. We 
expect broad knowledge on the low temperature properties of 3He and 
experience in experimental techniques at ultra- low temperature, a 
strong background in solid state physics is desirable.

The appointment is for 2 years, and the salary is according to the
