_The NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR <hxxp://www.ncnr.nist.gov/>)
is seeking candidates for an Instrument Scientist position at the HFBS
backscattering spectrometer
<hxxp://www.ncnr.nist.gov/instruments/hfbs/>. This position is within
the Chemical Physics of Materials team which also manages the DCS
time-of-flight spectrometer <hxxp://www.ncnr.nist.gov/instruments/dcs>,
the NSE neutron spin echo spectrometer
<hxxp://www.ncnr.nist.gov/instruments/nse/>, and the FANS filter
analyzer spectrometer <hxxp://www.ncnr.nist.gov/instruments/fans/>.A
doctorate in condensed matter physics, chemistry, materials science, or
a related discipline is required, and experience in neutron scattering
or related techniques is desirable but not essential. The successful
candidate will be expected to assist users of the HFBS spectrometer, to
participate in ongoing and future instrument upgrades, to contribute to
the day-to-day running of the facility, and to perform their own
independent research program, taking advantage of the wide range of
neutron instrumentation available at the NCNR.Appointments are typically
for an initial two years with the possibility of extension.Salary is in
the range from $70,000 to $80,000, depending on qualifications and
experience.
