Expressions of interest are invited for a postdoctoral research
position funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project
working under the supervision of A/Prof Rob Atkin and Dr Grant Webber at
the University of Newcastle, Australia.
The project will use Ionic Liquids (ILs) in place of conventional
molecular liquids as solvents in soft matter assemblies. ILs have
advantages over conventional solvents due to their remarkable physical
properties, which includes thermal conductivity and stability, and low
volatility. We will exploit our capacity to tune intermolecular
interactions to produce mesostructured materials in ILs, including
surfactant and polymer assemblies, nanofluids, and clay - polymer
composites. These new hybrid materials will combine the useful
properties of the mesostructured material with the advantageous physical
properties of ILs.
You should have (or be about to receive) a PhD in chemistry, chemical
physics, or related areas, and have a proven record of experience with
one or more of the following: radiation scattering or reflection
techniques, atomic force microscopy, quartz crystal microbalance, and
the physical properties of ionic liquids.
