A Postdoctoral Research Assistantship is available to work on structural
studies of membrane, peptides and drugs in using neutron diffraction,
NMR and computer simulation in the Department of Biochemistry at the
University of Oxford (UK). This post is a fixed-term position of three
years.

This multi-technique based project is suitable for an enthusiastic
researcher interested in applying experimental and computational
techniques to understand how peptide, proteins and lipids interact with
water and other small molecule such as drugs and toxins in solution. The
successful applicant to this post will be based in the Department of
Biochemistry at the University of Oxford and will work under the
supervision of Dr. Sylvia McLain and will perform experiments at the
ISIS Neutron and Muon Source (STFC, UK). Applicants should possess a
doctorate in physics, chemistry or related field. Previous experience in
neutron scattering, particularly in diffraction techniques, or computer
simulations will be at an advantage. Applicants should ideally but not
necessarily have 1 to 2 years of postdoctoral experience.

Formal applications for this PDRA position should be made through the
Oxford Biochemistry website -
http://www.bioch.ox.ac.uk/aspsite/index.asp?sectionid=vacancies&job=br537

A related 3-year EPSRC PhD studentship is also available in the same
group starting in October 2013 for investigations using neutron
diffraction, NMR and computation to investigate the specific
interactions between water, peptides and lipids of the membrane bilayer
with a view towards understanding their role in biomolecular structure
and function. The successful candidate should have an undergraduate
degree in biochemistry, physics, chemistry or a related field. Further
information can be found and applications for studentship can be
submitted via http://www.bioch.ox.ac.uk/aspsite/index.asp?pageid=945

Informal enquires with CV are welcome and should be directed to Dr.
Sylvia McLain (sylvia.mclain at bioch.ox.ac.uk)
