Detailed Description:
Lujan Center is looking for highly motivated Scientists to join selected beamlineteams at Lujan Center. Some on-call work and travel may be required.
These positions will be filled at either the Scientist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Scientist 1 ($69,300-$113,400)
The Duties for the Scientist 1 include:
· Work with the instrument teams to execute world-class research on neutron scattering instruments and provide support to the BES user program at Lujan Center through interactions with users and visitors from other US National Laboratories, academia and industry as well as foreign institutions.
· Pursue research centered around Lujan instruments or support on-going research projects.
· Demonstrate competency in applying knowledge in his/her area of expertise to contribute to on-going and new scientific programs and be a contributor to completion of milestones or project objectives.
· Assist with the operation of one of the instruments at the Lujan Center, which include the safe and secure day-to-day operation of the instrument and its sample environments, assisting users with the set-up and operation of neutron experiments, as well as instrument development.
· Contribute to the goals set and directed by a supervising senior staff member and/or Lujan Management.
· Demonstrate high potential for further advancement and show sufficient knowledge or experience to become an important contributor to the support of the BES user program at Lujan Center.
Scientist 2 ($76,500-$128,000)
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the Scientist 2 will:
· Initiate and perform a high quality research as part of a program using neutron scattering in collaboration with other LANL groups or external users.
· Prepare professional publications and reports and presenting findings in national and international technical meetings.
· While receiving long-range direction and occasional oversight on complex issues he/she will report directly to Lujan Center management or supervising Senior staff member scientist.
· Will be expected to apply for funding to expand his/her scientific program or Lujan Center scientificgoals and to actively pursue opportunities to further integrate Lujan Center into LANL/DOE programs.

Minimum Job Requirements:
• Masters or equivalent experience in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology or Materials Science
• Independence, initiative, and self-motivation
• Organization skills and ability to work as a team member
• Ability to communicate and work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural work environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Communication and listening skills
Additional Requirements for a Scientist 2:
• PhD and postdoctoral experience in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology or Materials Science
• Be fully competent in applying knowledge in his/her area of expertise to resolve scientific problems and be a contributor to completion of milestones or project objectives.
• Previous experience with neutron and/or x-ray scattering
• Technical leadership experience
• Ability to communicate and work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural work environment
• Experience mentoring students
Desired Skills:
· Experience with Linux, and programming languages, such as C\C++, Java etc IDL
· Experience with JavaScript and MySQL programming to support database development
· Experience with automation and instrument control using LabView and/or EPICS.
· Knowledge and understanding of operations at a user facility.
· Eligible for Q-clearance
· A desire to contribute to issues related to national security
Additional Details
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to a regular status only with approval of the cognizant Principal Associate Director.
