Postdoctoral Fellow and PhD-thesis Student positions
Neutron backscattering spectrometers worldwide use perfect Si- crystals on large spherically shaped surfaces (~10 m2) as monochromators and analysers to achieve highest energy resolution.
For the first time we will employ GaAs instead which holds promise to improve the energy resolution by one order of magnitude.
At the same time a time-of-flight option will be added to IN16B at the ILL to enlarge the energy transfer range by a factor of 10.
The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) have a 3-year funding by the German BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) for the project:
'Erhöhung der Energieauflösung und Erweiterung des dynamischen Bereiches für Neutronenrückstreuspektrometer – increased energy resolution and extended dynamical range for neutron backscattering spectrometers'.
Funding has started with the 1 July 2013.
We are recruiting
1 Post doctoral fellow and 1 PhD-student,
both on 3-year contracts, starting date at your earliest convenience.
While the employment will be with the University of Erlangen, you will be mainly located at the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, France, where the project will be implemented.
Feel encouraged applying if you have strong interest in science and instrumentation, and enjoy the idea of working at a world leading institution in an international environment.
• As a PhD student you will address aspects related to crystal diffraction, dynamical scattering theory and high energy resolution spectroscopy. In addition you will carry out key experiments to proof the novel performance of the instrument.
• As a Postdoc fellow, you are ready to be involved in the management of the project. In addition, you will carry out key experiments to proof the novel performance of the instrument.
