Purpose
The Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) operates the High Flux Isotope Reactor
(HFIR), the United States' highest flux reactor based neutron source, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the world's
most intense pulsed accelerator based neutron source. Together these facilities operate 30 instruments for neutron scattering
research, each year carrying out in excess of 1,000 experiments in the physical, chemical, materials, biological and medical
sciences for more than 3,000 visiting scientists. HFIR also provides unique facilities for isotope production and neutron
irradiation. To learn more about Neutron Sciences at ORNL go to: http://neutrons.ornl.gov. The Computing and
Computational Sciences Directorate (CCSD) in ORNL is home to some of the world's most advanced supercomputing
infrastructures (For more: https://www.olcf.ornl.gov).

BSMD (Biological and Soft Matter Division) is seeking an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral position with a
computer/computational science background to develop cutting edge scalable software for advanced neutron sciences data
analysis applications. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists at the CSED (Computational Sciences and
Engineering Division of the CCSD) on advanced parallel data structure concepts and their applications to scalable solutions
of pressing data analysis needs in the NScD. The successful candidate will be part of a team tasked with delivering a
high-impact computational framework for the worldwide users of the SNS and HFIR instruments.

Major Duties/Responsibilities
- Conduct research in scalable high-performance scientific computing with intersection in the neutron sciences.
- Develop, implement and benchmark production level parallel codes on distributed memory architectures.
- Publish scientific papers on this collaborative research.
- Present scientific results at appropriate national and international conferences.

Qualifications Required
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physical Science, Materials Science and Engineering or a related area
with a strong computational background is required. Applicants must have received their PhD within five years of this
application or be on track to finish and defend their PhD within the next 6 months. Applicants must complete all degree
requirements before starting their appointment. Applicants must have a proven track record of published research in the
design and development of parallel algorithms and methods. Candidates must be proficient with parallel computing standards
such as Message Passing Interface (MPI) and OpenMP in programming languages such as C/C++/Fortran.

Qualifications Desired
Experience in GPU programming using CUDA/OpenCL would be a plus.

Questions about the position may be directed to Sudip K. Seal (sealsk at ornl.gov) or Lilin He (hel3 at ornl.gov<mailto:hel3 at ornl.gov>).

This position will remain open for a minimum of 5 days after which it will close when a qualified candidate is identified and/or
hired.

We accept Word(.doc, .docx), Excel(.xls, .xlsx), PowerPoint(.ppt, .pptx), Adobe(.pdf), Rich Text Format(.rtf), HTML(.htm,
.hmtl) and text files(.txt) up to 2MB in size. Resumes from third party vendors will not be accepted; these resumes will be
deleted and the candidates submitted will not be considered for employment.

If you have trouble applying for a position, please email ORNLRecruiting at ornl.gov<mailto:ORNLRecruiting at ornl.gov>.
