Neutron Scattering Instrument Scientist Positions

Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory has multiple openings for neutron
scattering scientists. The laboratory was established in 2018 under the
leadership of the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in
partnership with the Chinese Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) and the city
of Dongguan; with an initial, first phase funding of RMB \5 billion (approx.
US $750M) provided by the city of Dongguan. The laboratory is located next
to CSNS in Dongguan, China, about an hour north of Hong Kong.

A key part of the laboratory’s core competencies is the platform for
neutron scattering sciences, which will consist initially of a suite of
time-of-flight neutron scattering instruments at the CSNS:

*	A direct geometry thermal chopper spectrometer
*	A direct geometry cold chopper spectrometer
*	An indirect geometry, multi analyzer spectrometer
*	A single crystal and cross-correlation diffuse scattering
spectrometer

The laboratory is seeking qualified and motivated scientists to lead the
instrument design and construction efforts. The ideal candidate will have a
Ph.D. degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biophysics, Material Sciences,
Engineering or related fields, and a proven scientific record. Priority will
be given to candidates with experiences in neutron and synchrotron
scattering sciences and techniques. Exceptional candidates with experiences
in related fields will also be considered. Candidates are expected to be
able to effectively communicate with various instrument construction and
support teams, as well as with the Chinese neutron scattering user community
at large. The ability to communicate in Chinese is strongly preferred.
Selected candidates are also expected to maintain his or her scientific
research at a high level.

Candidates from entry to senior levels are encouraged to apply. Salary is
generally in the range of RMB \400,000 to \800,000 depending on
qualifications and experiences. Higher salaries are possible on a
case-by-case base. Housing subsidies, and generous startup funding packages
will also be provided.

The positions will be filled on a continual basis and will remain open until
all are filled. Interested candidates should email their application letters
along with their CV and 3 references or reference contacts to
