Dear colleagues,

the new version 3.7 VITESS software package for the simulation of neutron scattering instruments and virtual neutron experiments has been released and can be downloaded from the VITESS website at FZJ: https://iffgit.fz-juelich.de/vitess/vitess/-/releases. It is the first version in which all major options of all modules were tested by dedicated tests comparing the parameters of each neutron with reference data.
Version 3.7 contains the following new modules and features:
- two new source modules for a better connection with target-moderator-reflector simulations
   - KDSource, which increases the number of neutron trajectories using the kernel density estimator method
   - Source_AI, which creates a function to define the moderator characteristic using AI
- a new module to simulate prisms
- the well-known NCrystal library can be used
- the monochromator module allows simulating rotating and oscillating monochromators
- the module for inelastic samples can now handle spin dependent scattering
- a Python API is available now as an alternative to develop the instrument using the GUI
We hope that you will download and use it. Any feedback is welcome; it can be sent to vitess at fz-juelich.de<mailto:vitess at fz-juelich.de>.

With kind regards,
   the VITESS team

P.S.: Version 4 is still in the works, but will certainly be released next year.
