[Neutron] Lead Detector-Design Engineer at ESS

The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Lead Detector-Design Engineer. Are you one in your kind and ready to take part in a world-leading centre for materials research with neutrons? Get involved, you are needed!

Description of directorate/division
The Detector group is part of the Neutron Technology Division under the Science Directorate. The Neutron Technology Division provides the technological tools required for the design, construction and operation of the neutron instruments at the ESS. The Detector group is currently focused on performing the necessary research and development for alternatives to He-3 detectors for neutron detection.

Description of main responsibilities
The successful candidate will be an engineer in the detector group. A key responsibility will be to support the design work necessary for detector systems to flesh out the conceptual design into fully-fledged instrument designs. This will develop as the design becomes more detailed and the instrument construction progresses.

Jointly, their role will be to support the design efforts needed for the prototyping to develop novel neutron detectors for ESS. These designs will subsequently lead into detectors for instruments.

The ideal candidate will be able to develop complicated and original designs, use simulations and follow them through to production.

Qualifications
The position is best suited to an enthusiastic open-minded mechanical engineer, with a bent towards fine mechanical detail. An MSc or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline is a requirement. Experience of working in an international research institute or a large international project is highly desirable.

As a person we truly believe that to enjoy and perform in this position, you must have a hands-on approach and a general high standard of technical skills with an interest to develop novel solutions to difficult problems. Furthermore you need to be results driven with an attention to details. You should have excellent 3D-CAD skills, experience with CATIA is preferred and prior experience in designing detectors would be invaluable.

You are proud of your work, set high standard for quality and quantity. Your English skills are excellent, both written and oral.

The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
